BATANGAS CITY – Justin Brownlee didn't forget to express gratitude for the tireless efforts of the coliseum staff who kept the floor dry for Barangay Ginebra's match against NLEX on Sunday night.
Brownlee tallied 37 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, and five steals under perilous circumstances at the Batangas City Coliseum, where oven-hot conditions made the floor slippery due to the players’ sweat.
The first half saw a lot of players such as NLEX import Tony Mitchell and Ginebra new boy Stanley Pringle take tumbles on the floor, opening the possibility of stopping the game due to unplayable conditions.
In the second half, stadium management deployed more persons to clean the floor to make sure that the floor was as dry as possible.
“First, I want to give a lot of credit to those guys who were cleaning the floor,” Brownlee said. “They did an amazing job every time out and every time they were on the floor really scrubbing the floor and making it dry.”
Ginebra coach Tim Cone was also happy with how the floor was taken care off during the match.
“To the credit of the punas guys… I thought that was showing great work ethic,” said Cone.
During the second half, at least four stadium personnel were on each side of the court and would enter the floor to clean up once the action shifts to other side.
Brownlee said the victory wouldn’t have been possible if not for their tireless efforts.
“It’s a big win for those guys tonight and we all appreciate those guys,” said Brownlee.
With the concerns eased, Brownlee said they were able to focus on playing.
“I think we did a good job sustaining our defense and trying to continue to get our rhythm on offense. We didn’t settle too much,” Brownlee said.
