FRANZ Pumaren feels Air21 has picked the right import as the Express launch an early buildup for the PBA Commissioner’s Cup, which kicks off on February 8.
Pumaren said they are eyeing European league veteran Michael Dunigan, a 23-year-old legitimate slotman who he feels could bring in the inside scoring and rebounding the Express need for the second conference.
“I’ve been searching for our import since last December and have asked scouts overseas. We’re projecting Michael could come around January 22. He’s in pretty good shape since he’s coming off a tournament in Perth,” Pumaren told Spin.ph.
The Express, who will be resuming their practice on Thursday at the Hoops Center, added they are in the process of sending their proposal to the agent of the 244-pound, 6-10 American reinforcement.
“He can give us size, scoring and rebounding. One thing good about him is that he’s a legitimate big guy,” explained Pumaren, whose team failed to get past the quarterfinals of the Philippine Cup after losing to top seed Talk ‘N Text.
Dunigan played two years for the University of Oregon from 2008-2010. In September 2010, Dunigan signed a professional contract to play for Hapoel Migdal Jerusalem in the Israeli Basketball Super League. Two months later, Dunigan was loaned to BC Kalev/Cramo in Estonia.
Dunigan joined the Memphis Grizzlies Summer League squad from September to October 2012, before being waived. He later had a four-game stint with the Perth Wildcats in Australia’s National Basketball League as a replacement import, averaging 13.8 points, 9.8 rebounds, 1.8 blocked shots and one assist per game.
