WHILE his team is still winless after two games, Alex Compton still had that big smile on his face even after Alaska's 93-88 loss to reigning PBA Philippine Cup champion San Miguel Saturday night.
And why not?
Down to just a 10-man roster, the Aces still proceeded to give the Beermen a big scare and didn't let the reigning all-Filipino kings get away with the win until the final bu?zer.
"Obviously we have some miscues in the end, but what I shared with the guys inside (the dugout) is kind of being proud of their effort," said Compton afterwards.
Playing minus Calvin Abueva and five other stalwarts, the Aces dominated the game until the final two minutes when turnovers and missed shots finally did them in against an experienced San Miguel side.
The sorry loss left the Aces as one of only three teams still winless in the season-opening meet along with Mahindra and Star.
Compton obviously would rather take the win, but is not complaining about the latest loss.
"I'm disappointed with them because as hard as they played, as much as they tried, I couldn't have asked for more (from them)," he said.
"SMB beat us and they deserved it."
