LESTER Prosper is grateful to Rashawn McCarthy for helping open the chance to play in the PBA with Columbian.
Prosper said he is doing everything to repay the trust of McCarthy, who recruited him to play for the Dyip this conference. Prosper and McCarthy are former college teammates at Old Westbury.
“Everybody knows Rashawn got me here so it’s only right that I play hard for him and play hard for myself and for my team,” said Prosper.
Prosper said McCarthy has been trying to get him since the start of the conference, but the Dyip opted to bring in Kyle Barone.
“That’s my college teammate. We look out for each other. He looked out for me so I’ll try to do my best as a I can. He tried to get me here from the beginning. It would be a lot different. We keep working and see what happens and see how the tables turn,” said the 30-year-old Prosper.
The Dominican Republic native had a huge game for the Dyip in their 134-132 upset win over San Miguel in overtime, scoring 40 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.
“It’s amazing, man. Nothing comes easy for us. I felt that we worked very hard so we deserve the win. It was a tough team. Two of the best post players in the league, they have some killer guards. I’m happy that we snuck one out.”
At 2-6 (win-loss), the Dyip are still outside the eight places that will lead to the playoffs, but Prosper isn't giving up.
He's a happy camper at Columbian.
“They treat me so amazing with Columbian. As a player, I’m happy. They give me a gym, they gave me trainors. That’s why I’m playing this way because I’m happy. Coach gave me free will to do what I can.
"I’m in the gym everyday working. If I’m not lifting weights, I’m working on my right, working on my left, working on my inside game, my outside game, everything that I can work on,” said Prosper.
