JUST the idea of having Japeth Aguilar back in a Talk 'N Text uniform already excites the defending PBA Philippine Cup champions.
“Just imagine how more potent we can get when we have a 6-foot-9 athletic guy who adds energy to the team?” Talk `N Text team manager Aboy Castro told Spin.ph hours upon learning of the sad news that Aguilar failed to make the cut of the Santa Cruz Warriors’ final roster for the 2012-2013 season of the NBA D-League.
But the Talk `N Text executive said everything hinges on the next move of the former Smart Gilas stalwart.
Aguilar earlier Marvin Espiritu, his Philippine based agent, to just give him at least a week to think about his next step.
“As far as Talk 'N Text is concerned, the offer is still on the table just like what we told him just before he left the country to pursue his NBA dream,” added Castro.
Talk `N Text still owns the playing rights of the one-time Ateneo center.
The Tropang Texters are currently on top of the standings with a 9-2 (win-loss) record, and are on track of going for a third straight All-Filipino championship under new coach Norman Black.
Castro also dispelled rumors the Tropang Texters are engaging in trade talks with other teams in a bid to land a big man to shore up its already potent frontline core.
Yet, he did admit the team remains hopeful Aguilar will rejoin them since he could easily provide athleticism and youth to the team's frontcourt.
"Kahit naman paano mo tingnan, we need an energetic big guy. Si John Ferriols has been providing quality minutes, but in about having an athletic 6-foot-9 guy in your team...but then, we have yet to see how he is now, though just being exposed to more experienced players in the NBA D-League, he'll surely improve,” explained the Talk 'N Text team manager.
