BARANGAY Ginebra coach Tim Cone is not discounting the possibility of fielding an explosive backcourt trio of Stanley Pringle, Scottie Thompson, and LA Tenorio.
“There is no doubt Scottie can play with either LA or Stanley. And Stanley can play with LA or Scottie in the backcourt. Even the three of them can play together. So it’s a nice combination to have,” Cone said.
Cone said the three guards will definitely get the bulk of the minutes for the Kings, who acquired Pringle in a trade that sent Sol Mercado, Kevin Ferrer, and Jervy Cruz to NorthPort.
“Without a doubt that Stanley, LA, and Scottie are going to dominate the minutes and you are fitting three on the two spots. So if you work out the numbers, all three guys can play 36 minutes. That’s plenty. You don’t want guys playing more than that because you are risking injury and players wearing down physically and mentally,” Cone said.
“But then, we are still trying to integrate Teytey (Teodoro) and Mark (Caguioa), they are going to get some time as well but those guys, LA, Scottie, and Stanley are going to dominate the guard minutes. They are the acknowledged stars of the team,” said Cone.
Cone is thrilled at the thought of having an explosive scorer in Pringle in his roster.
“We are trying to envision something like Scottie bringing down the floor, having Justin (Brownlee) on the right side and Stanley on the left side, and think of all the options he has and our big guys running the floor, Greg (Slaughter) and Japeth (Aguilar). There is a lot of nice things to see and think about.
“Hopefully, that vision will be realized and we move forward and give us a better chance of winning the championship,” Cone said.
