Pressed for time, Talk 'N Text hoping for instant reconnection with balik-import Paul Harris

    Jun 5, 2014

TALK ’N Text hopes to make an instant reconnection with Paul Harris as the Texters look to sustain their winning run when they battle slumping GlobalPort on Friday in the PBA Governors Cup at the Cuneta Astrodome.

The 6-foot-4 Harris is rejoining TNT to replace former NBA veteran Rodney Carney, who coach Norman Black found ineffective after averaging an anemic 17.6 points and 3.6 rebounds in the team’s three-game winning streak.

Harris helped steer the Chot Reyes-mentored Texters to the 2011 Commissioner’s Cup title and also played in the 2012 Governors Cup.

Black hopes the 27-year-old NBA D-League veteran can easily fit in under his system and be able to contribute immediately.

“We have a new import in Paul Harris so our goal is to blend him in as quickly as possible,” said Black, whose team faces Globalport (1-4) at 5:45 p.m.

Black believes Harris can be the team’s defensive spark while providing strength off the glass.

A victory by the Texters could move them closer to clinching one of the top four slots and a twice-to-beat incentive heading to the playoffs.

Talk ’N Text, though, could have its hands full defending GlobalPort, whose burly import Dior Lowhorn will now get additional support from newly acquired veterans Yancy de Ocampo and gunners Val Acuna as well as Ronjay Buenafe.

The 6-foot-4 Lowhorn averaged 35.5 points and 13.0 rebounds during his first two games since replacing Leroy Hickerson.

However, the Batang Pier have lost both times since Lowhorn came on board, wasting big leads and ending up losing to San Mig Super Coffee and San Miguel Beer.

The 6’8 De Ocampo is expected to add a solid defensive presence, while Acuna and Buenafe can make instant contributions from the outside.

“Maging consistent lang kami kasi we’re doing well sa offense at defense. Basta mag-finish strong lang kami,” said GlobalPort coach Pido Jarencio.
