PRESIDENTIAL executive assistant Bong Go watched the Barangay Ginebra-Alaska PBA Philippine Cup game on Sunday night, hardly attracting any attention to himself at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The personal aide of President Duterte was a special guest of commissioner Chito Narvasa and media bureau chief Willie Marcial and watched the action at ringside of what he considers as his ‘stress-buster.’

“Yung manood daw ng PBA and basketball ang pampaalis niya ng stress,” said Marcial, quoting the head of the Presidential Management Staff.

The 43-year-old public official from Davao City doesn’t root for Ginebra like his provincemate, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Ronald ‘Bato’ Dela Rosa, nor is he an avid supporter of any particular team.

It just so happened that he likes watching the game he loves to play as he did during the Governors Cup when he was also at the Big Dome for the Ginebra-Star showdown.

Marcial said Go is also a decent basketball player, having watched him play several times in Davao.

“Mahilig lang talaga yan sa basketball,” added Marcial, a personal friend of Go from way back since they met when the league played an out-of-town game in Davao a long time ago.

Go however, didn’t get to enjoy the Ginebra-Alaska affair in its entirety. Most of the time, he’s busy on the phone texting, and in one instance, even had to excuse himself and leave his seat after receiving a call from no less than the President.

“Almost 30 minutes yata nawala bago bumalik,” said Marcial.

His attention kept away from the game, Go was surprised to see the Aces already leading the Kings by a mile when the fourth quarter came.

“O, tambak na pala,” Marcial related Go as telling to him.

He left the game with about two minutes to go and didn’t see Alaska run away with a 101-86 win.

But Go wants to come back and watch Wednesday’s scheduled doubleheader at the San Juan Arena, according to Marcial.

“Nagtanong kasi siya kung saan daw yung San Juan Arena at baka makadaan uli siya,” said the league official.

The Wednesday twinbill features Meralco vs. Phoenix at 4:15 p.m. and Globalport against Blackwater at 7 p.m.
