JUST the thought of Talk ‘N Text’s potential starting five in the coming 41st season of the PBA is enough to bring a tingle down the spine.
Imagine Moala Tautuaa manning the middle, Troy Rosario and veteran Ranidel de Ocampo at the wings, and Jason Castro with Matt Ganuelas Rosser taking care of the backcourt.
Another former Gilas mainstay, Larry Fonacier, can also start for the team in the backcourt. Also in the Texters side is Kelly Williams, who was forced to drop out of the Gilas pool by an injury suffered in practice.
In the eyes of Alaska head deputy coach Louie Alas, that’s almost half of Gilas Pilipinas team suiting up for the Tropang Texters in the season-opening Philippine Cup kicking off on October 18 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
“National team, bro. Super lakas,” Alas told Spin.ph, admitting he watched all five players during their stint with Gilas in the recent 37th Jones Cup.
Although Tautuaa and Rosario, who went 1-2 in the recent rookie draft, weren't able to make the final 12-man cut of Gilas for the Fiba Asia Men's Championships, the two were part of the national team pool that saw action in a four-nation pocket tournament in Estonia and the Jones Cup.
Still, the experience of playing for Gilas should augur well for all five Talk 'N Text players.
“We really have to find their weakness,” he added.
