ROGER Pogoy provided the comic relief on PBA draft during the Sunday proceedings at the Glorietta in Makati.
Tasked to announce TNT’s first draft selection in the third round (no. 31 overall), the veteran gunner mentioned an oh-so familiar name that’s albeit, not necessarily part of the draft list.
Instead of calling out the name of Jared Brown, Pogoy deliberately summoned the name of Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown.
“The TNT Tropang Giga select Jaylen Brown…ay Jared Brown pala,” the 32-year-old Cebuano said as he brought the house down.
The 27-year-old Brown of course, was named Finals MVP of the last NBA title series when he teamed up with Jayson Tatum to steer the Boston Celtics to a record 18th championship after beating the Dallas Mavericks.
Reached out for comment on his prank, Pogoy also couldn't help but laugh.
"Champion na kami nito," was his curt reply.
Unfortunately, the rookie was not around and was represented instead on stage by new TNT acquisition Rey Nambatac who received the traditional cap and franchise jersey in behalf of Brown.
Present for TNT were Pogoy, Glenn Khobuntin, Poy Erram, coach Chot Reyes, deputies Sandy Arespacochaga and Yuri Escueta, and team manager Jojo Lastimosa.
Although not exactly in the caliber of the Boston Celtics stalwart, the 5-foot-10 Brown has proven he can ball.
He played just one season for Ateneo and averaged 9.8 points, 2.3 assists, and 1.7 rebounds, showing his scoring skills by finishing in the 20s during several games of the Blue Eagles.
Prior to his transfer at Ateneo, Brown suited up for Westmont College California.
