RR POGOY is one of the TNT players who has been assigned to defend Justin Brownlee in the PBA 49th Governors’ Cup finals.
But despite limiting the production of the Barangay Ginebra resident reinforcement, Pogoy said they are not under the impression that they are doing an excellent job on defense.
In fact, Pogoy added it could only be a matter of time before Brownlee finally hits his shots.
“Siguro, team effort din. Siguro, malas din siguro,” said Pogoy, when asked about his defense against Brownlee, who is 0-for-4 for threes and 1-for-6 from fours in the series.
Knowing the caliber of Brownlee, Pogoy said the Tropang Giga must keep up their energy and effort on defense to avoid an explosion from the Gilas Pilipinas naturalized player in Game Three on Sunday - and even beyond.
“Alam mo naman si Justin, world stage nga, kinakain niya lahat ng depensa niya. Dapat talaga, ready lang talaga kami at focus lang,” said Pogoy, who has been taking turns with the likes of Glenn Khobuntin and even reigning Best Import Rondae Hollis-Jefferson in defending Brownlee.

In the finals, Pogoy said he has taken to heart his role of playing defense against the best player on the other side, perhaps one of the reasons why his scoring has gone down from 13.5 in the eliminations to 14.1 in the quarterfinals and semifinals to 10.5 in the finals.
Still, Pogoy said they are fully committed to play defense against Ginebra, as it has been a big reason why TNT has been successful not just in the finals, but all throughout the conference.
“Defensive player talaga, eto ‘yung role ko. Dedepensa ako kung sino mang mainit o sinong magaling sa team,” Pogoy said.
“Honestly, focus namin ‘yung sarili namin. ‘Yung depensa nagdadala sa amin dito. Every game, parating sinasabi ni coach, depensa tayo. Nagagalit talaga si coach kapag ‘yung player, hindi dumedepensa kasi ‘yun ang weapon namin."
