RENALDO Balkman’s attack on a teammate is unique, therefore it also needs an entirely different approach.
That's PBA commissioner Chito Salud talking, when asked by Spin.ph if Balkman's choke hold on Petron teammate Arwind Santos on Friday night would qualify under any of the rules the pro league currently had in place like a flagrant foul or an above-the-shoulder foul.
“Kakaiba nga ito, kaya kakaibang treatment din ang ibibigay natin,” said Salud.
The lawyer said he will look at the big picture and it will be immaterial if the attack was on a teammate or not. “Ang treatment dito is the bigger picture - 'yung kanyang behavior sa court, yun ang kailangan niyang ipaliwanag … hindi yung kakampi ba niya o hindi yung kinompronta niya,” he said.
Salud likewise enumerated some of the possible violations committed by Balkman: “Flagrant misconduct, unsportsmanlike behavior and lack of respect for game officials and the game."
