DASMARIÑAS CITY – Playoff Marcio is back.
Rebounding from his early struggles in the playoffs, Marcio Lassiter regained his stroke by shooting 3-of-8 from threes to finish with 13 points in San Miguel’s crucial 101-98 win over Barangay Ginebra in Game 3 of their PBA 50th Season Governors’ Cup quarterfinals.
Lassiter started this playoffs by missing all of his five threes and two fours in the first two games, so he was glad to finally make one in Game 3.
“It was a sigh of relief,” said Lassiter. “I’m sure, as a shooter, you have to keep shooting. And that’s what I did. I believe in my shot and it was just a matter of time before it drops.”
Lassiter gave credit to Ginebra’s defense for making it hard for him to make an outside shot during the first two games.
“Majority, their defense because they want to stay home on me. I guess that’s Tim Cone’s strategy. He knows that I’m a really good shooter so he wanted to deny me open looks. That’s part of it.
“When I did have a look, I didn’t convert. I had to find ways to help my team, winning plays on defense,” Lassiter said.
Thanks in part to Lassiter’s output, San Miguel extended the series to at least a Game 4 to be played on Friday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Lassiter isn’t looking too far ahead, just like what they did in Game 3..
“We are really just taking it one game at a time. From that, it’s micro perspective. Each possession at a time. I think that’s the best way to look at it. You really can’t think of what the other games could be.
"Tonight it was just Game 3, one possession at a time. You’ve got to be in the present moment at all times,” Lassiter said.
