FOR Petron’s sophomore center June Mar Fajardo, playing against his mentor and former Boosters teammate Danny Ildefonso is unimaginable.
“Ewan ko, di ko maisip 'yun, pero wala pa naman akong balita,” the 6-foot-10 Fajardo said when asked by Spin.ph about Ildefonso’s impending move to another team.
Fajardo credits Ildefonso for giant strides in his game, the one-on-one workouts after practice sessions helping the big man become one of the most dominant in the league today.
But when Petron management mysteriously dropped Ildefonso from this year’s official roster, everyone, including Fajardo was caught by surprise.
Ildefonso has officially been released by Petron, and the soft-spoken Fajardo said he will just have to keep his focus on helping the Boosters’ title campaign this season.
"Ako, steady lang muna sa team. Wala akong masabi," he said.
So far, the 24-year-old Petron big man is doing well during his first three games this season.
The Pinamungahan, Cebu native is averaging 15.3 points, a league-best 17.6 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.3 blocks during Petron’s 3-0 start for the PLDTmyDSL-Philippine Cup.
Fajardo also recorded his first 20-20 output for the season on Wednesday when Petron clobbered Governors Cup tormentor San Mig Super Coffee, 92-79.
He finished with 21 points and 25 rebounds, one shy of his career-high 26 boards, which he registered during Game Four of last month’s Governors Cup Finals.
