MARCIO Lassiter has been one of the most consistent performers for San Miguel, but Wednesday's 93-79 win over Blackwater saw his production drop to a season-low of six points.
The same goes for Von Pessumal, who has been playing impressively this season in lieu of injured players Alex Cabagnot and Terrence Romeo. But on Wednesday, it was his turn to sit out.
If you think there's a similarity between the two's conditions, you are correct as the Beermen are not spared by the flu bug.
Coach Leo Austria shared that players, and even coaching staff, are going down with sickness these past few days.
"Baka yung panahon na nga. Pati coaching staff, nahawa na sa sakit. Von wasn't able to play, and si Marcio was not able to practice because of his sickness nga," he said.
Aside from Lassiter and Pessumal, assistant coach Peter Martin has also been downed by flu in the leadup to the Beermen's win over the Elite.
Meanwhile, Christian Standhardinger missed the game due to lingering pain due to an ITB on his left knee.
That made the return of Alex Cabagnot from a hamstring injury and Arwind Santos from food poisoning all the more valuable for San Miguel, as it snapped out of its two-game losing skid and pull even to 3-3 this 2019 PBA Philippine Cup.
Tough as these past few days were, June Mar Fajardo hopes that soon enough, things will finally be alright as the Beermen gear up for the rest of the eliminations starting with a game against Magnolia on Sunday.
"Prayers na lang sa mga teammates namin na may sakit at injury. Sana mapadali yung paggaling nila kasi kailangan namin sila," he said.
