PJ Simon believes that getting back to his usual pre-game routine worked wonders in getting his offensive rhythm back for Star in the PBA Philippine Cup.
The Hotshots star guard admitted being preoccupied when he had a visitor last time that proved to be a major factor in having a rare scoreless night in their blowout loss to BarakoBull.
But Simon simply did what he normally does days before a game heading to their crucial encounter against Blackwater – recovery, extra shooting, and workout.
“Kasi that time, may bisita kasi ako dumating, kaya I made sure na coming into this game na babalik ako sa dating kong routine,” Simon admitted. “More prepared lang siguro ngayon.”
As a result, the old reliable registered a season-high 26 points on 8-of-14 shooting, four assists, one board, and one block in 30 minutes.
Simon fired 11 of his output in the first quarter to spark the surge, before cooling down with just three points in the second frame.
“Mas maganda nga na ganun (na nag-cool down ako nung second) kasi ibig sabihin maganda yung ginagawa ng second group,” Simon said. “Natutuwa ako dahil na-e-extend yung pahinga namin. In-expect ko nga nung fourth quarter na itutuloy na nila yun, pero binalik kami ni coach.”
Simon said he is thriving well under rookie coach Jason Webb and his familiar system.
“Acutally mas used asko sa ganitong laro,” the 35-year-old cager said. “Kailangan lang namin na sabay-sabay mag-improve kasi hindi naman lahat komportable sa ganitong situation.”
“Hopefuly sabay-sabay kami maging komportable ngayong quarterfinals,” he added.
