PETER June Simon has been given a lot of monikers through the course of his 16-year PBA career.
But one that really stuck was the Scoring Apostle, thanks to his penchant to provide instant offense whenever he takes the court for Purefoods.
Need a proof?
Just take a look at his best offensive game back in November 10, 2010 when he lit up for a career-best 42 points in B-Meg Derby Ace's 102-97 victory over Air21.
In that game, the Makilala, Cotabato-born dribbler made all of his 11 shots from inside the arc, buried two of his four triples, and canned 14 of his 18 free throws to carry the Llamados to a victory over the Express in the 2010 Philippine Cup.
That performance, however, shouldn't really come as a surprise as back in his time with Davao Eagles in the Metropolitan Basketball Association (MBA), he already showed ability to reach such scales.
Almost a decade before his career-best showing in the PBA, Simon lit up for 41 points as Davao edged Nueva Ecija Patriots, 112-105, in Araullo Gym in Cabanatuan City as he made mincemeat of the opposing defenders back in November 14, 2001.
Although he never got close to another 40-point game in his career, Simon has always been a legitimate threat to wax hot.
Based on the records of PBA chief statistician Fidel Mangonon III, Simon's second-best scoring outing was just a month removed from his career-high night as he poured 35 points back in December 17, 2010 in B-Meg's 106-97 double overtime win over then-newcomer Meralco in Game One of their quarterfinals series.
The Llamados eventually swept the Bolts in that series, but lost to Talk 'N Text in six games in the semis.
The 5-foot-11 slasher also scored 32 points in the 2006 Philippine Cup in Purefoods' 114-73 blowout of Coca Cola in December 13, 2006.
With him playing perfect music with longtime partner James Yap, the Chunkee Giants snared the top seed and captured the championship, besting Red Bull in six.
Simon's top scoring night in an import-laden conference, meanwhile, came in the 2007 Fiesta Conference where he fired 31 points back in May 13, 2007.
That, however, came in a defeat as Ginebra topped Purefoods, 117-105 in that game.
Although he never won the scoring title in his career, Simon's worth to the Purefoods franchise couldn't be any more emphasized as seen in him winning the Mr. Quality Minutes award twice, first in 2008 and the second in 2014, where he was a vital piece in San Mig Coffee's Grand Slam run.
