ANTIPOLO – NorthPort coach Pido Jarencio is not worried that fatigue may come into play later after Jamel Artis played 48 minutes again in Saturday’s game against Phoenix Super LPG.
Following his 42-point performance against Magnolia just two days ago, Artis had another no-relief outing, finishing with 29 points, six rebounds, and three assists in a 101-93 win.
“Nung ako nga, 28 years old, tatlong beses ako maglaro – umaga, tanghali, hapon. Tapos nagjojogging pa ako ng madaling araw nun,” said Jarencio in jest.
Kidding aside, Jarencio said there is no cause of concern as it is also Artis who chooses not to take a rest.
“Ba’t ka mag-aalala sa bata eh 28 years old ‘yun. Eh sana kung 35 years old ‘yun,” said Jarencio. “Eh ‘yung Arwind Santos nga 40 years, naglalaro ng 30, 40 minutes. “
Jamel Artis has played two full games back-to-back.
“’Yung Artis, ‘yung player na ganun, parang mas gusto niya naglalaro siya kesa nagpapahinga siya. Kasi once nagpahinga ka, mawawala timing mo tapos ang lamig pa ng coliseum, baka ginawin ka. Tapos pagbalik mo, hindi na ganun ‘yung laro mo. Hindi katulad ng nasa loob ka, nababasa mo lahat kung kailan aatake,” said Jarencio.
The NorthPort import also had his struggles in the game, shooting 9 of 20 from the field and had eight turnovers. He was active though early in the match, scoring 11 points to put the Batang Pier ahead, 23-18, in the first.
He added eight in the fourth to help NorthPort keep its lead that reached as high as 13.
Artis now will have a benefit of a rest as NorthPort will have three days before it faces Blackwater on Wednesday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
“Decent siya sa whole game. Kaya ano pa masasabi mo? Kaya bigay ko na sa kanya ‘yun kung gusto niya. Tsaka bata ‘yun. 28 years old ‘yun,” said Jarencio.
