NORTHPORT will play without head coach Pido Jarencio and the rest of the coaching staff as its 2021 PBA Philippine Cup campaign finally restarts in Pampanga on Thursday.
Jarencio on Tuesday admitted he and his assistant coaches are still in quarantine and have not rejoined the Batang Pier in the Philippine Cup restart.
Jarencio said team manager Bonnie Tan and assistant team manager Waiyip Chong will take over the bench until he is cleared to join the team.
NorthPort restarts its conference on Thursday when it faces Blackwater after missing the first week due to the league’s health and safety protocols.
After being cleared to play this week, the Batang Pier have trained without their coaches, with team captain Sean Anthony and co-captain Kevin Ferrer leading the practice sessions.

“Lahat, game plan, viewing, binigay na namin sa mga players at kung ano ang gagawin pati sa practice,” said Jarencio, who added he is still unsure when he will return on the bench.
After Thursday’s match, the Batang Pier will also play back-to-back days on Saturday and Sunday when they face Terrafirma and NLEX.
NorthPort enters the restars with a 1-3 record, with two losses against Barangay Ginebra and San Miguel by just two points in each of the games. Their recent defeat came after Christian Standhardinger scored a buzzer-beating jumper, 87-85, last July 30.
“Maganda na rin ‘yung takbo ng team namin. Dalawang talo na malalakas na team na muntik na kaming manalo. Ang problema namin, nawala kami sa timing kasi putol putol ang ensayo.”
“Ang maganda, malakas ang katawan nila kaya lang ‘yung timing,” said Jarencio.
