THE 46-point beating that the Bay Area Dragons dealt Blackwater has sent shockwaves through the PBA.

The Dragons overwhelmed the Bossing, 133-87, in the opener of the Commissioner’s Cup on Wednesday in what was the biggest win by any guest team in the history of the PBA, according to the league’s statistics chief Fidel Mangonon.

Bay Area’s next opponent is NorthPort, which even well before the Phoenix game was already aware of the beatdown that the Dragons dealt the Bossing. After winning against the Fuel Masters, the Batang Pier set their sights on slaying the Dragons on Saturday.

“Nagulat nga kami ‘pag tingin namin sa TV, ganun ang tambakan,” said NorthPort star Robert Bolick. “Pakita lang namin ang ano namin doon. Laban kami.”

“Laban lang,” said Bolick, who finished with 21 points and nailed the dagger three in the 92-89 Batang Pier victory. “Baka magulat namin sila. Gulatan lang naman. Baka magulat sila sa amin. Pangit laruin nila tapos kami naman, maganda ang laro.”

Former NBA player Myles Powell lit up for 41 points and shot 14-of-28 from the field for the foreign guest team, with the 6-foot-2 former New York Knicks cager grabbing eight rebounds and three assists.

NorthPort coach Pido Jarencio agreed with Bolick’s statements.

“Tama, baka magulat sila sa amin. At least, ilan lamang nila [sa Blackwater], baka bente lang lamang nila sa amin,” said Jarencio in jest.

Turning serious, Jarencio said NorthPort will always be a fighting team as shown in the match against Phoenix where they somehow won the game even with Arvin Tolentino, Prince Caperal, Jeff Chan, and Kent Salado making their debut just days after being traded from Ginebra.

“Pero lalaban itong team na ‘to. Alam mo naman itong team na ‘to. Gumagawa ng paraan para lumaban. Maski bago ang dumating, talagang para-paraan lang,” said Jarencio.

“Buti na lang nandito si Mr. Clutch, si Robert Bolick, tinulungan na naman ‘yung team natin. Sana buong season maging consistent kami. ‘Yun lang naman ang gusto ko mangyari. Buong season, consistent kami,” Jarencio said.
