LOOK who’s back as Globalport coach?
Relegated to a consultancy role, Pido Jarencio is returning as mentor of the Batang Pier, sources told Spin.ph
Persons with knowledge of the situation said Jarencio is slated for a coaching return with the franchise in the coming season-ending Governors’ Cup following the team’s elimination in the ongoing Commissioner’s Cup.
Jarencio will take over Eric Gonzales, who handled the team on an interim basis after the former University of Santo Tomas coach was made a consultant midway in the Philippine Cup.
Gonzales is going to slide back anew as Jarencio’s deputy after steering the Batang Pier to a 4-7 (win-loss) record in the mid-season tournament.
Jarencio led UST to the 2006 UAAP men’s basketball crown and two runner-up finishes before resigning in 2014 to take over the coaching job of the Batang Pier.
Unfortunately, he struggled in the three conferences at the helm of the team, which eventually decided to replace him with Gonzales a few games into the All-Filipino conference.
