A NEW-LOOK Phoenix team went on a furious scoring run in the final quarter to beat Star, 99-87, in the PBA campus tour on Wednesday at the CEU gym in Manila.

New acquisitions John Wilson, Simon Enciso, and Asian import Lee Kwan Hee combined in a 25-2 tear by the Fuel Masters that turned around a game the Hotshots had controlled almost three-fourths of the way.

The critical run erased a 70-73 deficit and gave the Fuel Masters a commanding 95-75 lead in the final three minutes.

"Out of shape pa 'yung kalaban dahil di pa rin naman sila nag-scrimmage. We just caught them on a bad day," said new Phoenix coach Ariel Vanguardia.

"I told them (Fuel Masters) wala naman itong ibig sabihin, tune-up game lang naman. But at least we're starting to build the foundation."

Both teams played without an import. Star resident reinforcement Marcus Blakely is set to fly in on Tuesday next week, according to team governor Rene Pardo.
