PHOENIX Super LPG goes to regain the solo lead in Group B against Magnolia Chicken Timplados in the PBA 50th Season Governors’ Cup on Wednesday at the Ynares Center-Antipolo.

San Miguel could then be in for another blowout victory, as it faces struggling Titan Ultra in the first game of the double-header.

Here is a preview.

Beermen go for third straight win

San Miguel seeks its third straight victory against Titan Ultra before the Beermen go into the break. SMB recently routed Macau, 131-79, last Saturday to improve to 5-2.

Avoid another blowout loss

Titan Ultra will look to improve on its 2-6 record in its match-up against San Miguel. It will be a daunting task, as the Giant Risers were defeated by the Beermen in a rout, 143-105, last July 29. Their previous game was also a rout when they were beaten by TNT, 114-80, last Saturday.

Another short day in the office?

With the Beermen facing another team at the bottom of the standings, San Miguel could be fielding in their second and third-string players once again.

San Miguel's George King

During their game against Macau where its import De’Vondre Perry didn’t play, George King saw action for only 10 minutes, but still managed to score 19 points. All SMB players were on the floor for at least seven minutes in the game against Macau. That could happen again unless Titan Ultra keeps the game close.

Battle for positioning in Group B

Phoenix and Magnolia duel with implications in the team standings in Group B. The Fuel Masters will take solo first place with a victory, while a win will give the Hotshots a share of second place.

First round encounter

Phoenix goes for a sweep of its elimination round encounters against Magnolia. The Fuel Masters defeated the Hotshots, 98-86, last July 11. They will also look to bounce back after their 106-100 defeat to Blackwater last Wednesday where they scored only 14 points in the fourth quarter.

Aside from leveling its conference series against Phoenix, Magnolia will go for its second straight win, and follow up on its 105-88 victory over Meralco last Friday.

Jerom back at it

After a brief slump, Jerom Lastimosa was back to his usual ways where he had 17 points, five rebounds, and six assists against Meralco.

Prior to that game, Lastimosa was only averaging 7.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 2.5 assists. Magnolia needs another similar outing from Lastimosa in order to win against Phoenix.

Perk needs to rally

Jason Perkins is out to bounce back after scoring a conference-low five points on 2-of-10 from the field in their game against Blackwater. Perkins was averaging 16.8 points prior to that outing.
