Phoenix management responds to Kevin Alas' post after dad's firing

    Sep 13, 2020

THE Phoenix Super LPG management said it would rather not to respond to issues raised by Kevin Alas following the decision of the Fuel Masters to drop his dad Louie as head coach.

The younger Alas defended his father in a social media post shortly after his firing, criticizing the way he was removed from the team, the team’s alleged failure to defend Calvin Abueva following his indefinite suspension from the league, and their treatment of their employees “as if their disposable.”

The younger Alas has since removed the post.

When reached for comment, team manager Paolo Bugia didn’t answer Alas’ accusations directly, only saying that a professional player should respect the decision of management either of his own team or other teams.

“As much as we would like to understand where he is coming from, it is our firm stand that regardless of filial relationship, a professional player should always respect management's prerogative in terms of its decision making - be it his own team or another,” said Bugia, speaking on behalf of the management.

Bugia added Phoenix has not and will never criticize decisions of other teams in public.

“In the same manner, the Fuel Masters will never publicly judge or comment on other teams' actions be it coaching change or player movements. The Fuel Masters have never made a mockery much less publicly criticize such prerogatives in a maligning manner, more so if one doesn’t really know the right facts from which the decision was made,” said Bugia.
