MATTHEW Wright buried a crucial three-pointer to send Phoenix Pulse to the top seed in the PBA Philippine Cup after beating San Miguel, 96-93, on Saturday at the Panabo Multi-Purpose Tourism, Cultural, and Sports Center in Panabo City, Davao Del Norte.

Wright scored 25 points including three triples in the game but none bigger than the one he converted with 1:15 left in the fourth as his perimeter shot off a transition play broke a 90-90 deadlock.

Jason Perkins made it a five-point game with a jumper before surviving a tough fadeaway triple by Terrence Romeo in the final possession of the match.

With the win, Phoenix Pulse finally sealed the number one spot in the quarterfinals, the franchise’s best finish in the elimination round in history, with a 9-2 card. The Fuel Masters also secured a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals.
