Mark Cruz and Josh Urbiztondo are now without teams after being dropped from the Phoenix roster.

PHOENIX let go of young guard Mark Cruz and veteran Josh Urbiztondo to free up the crowded backcourt of the ballclub.

Cruz and Josh Urbiztondo are now unrestricted free agents like Jeric Teng of Rain or Shine.

The two were told in advance about management’s decision to release them in order for both players to try out for spots in other teams ahead of the November 20 opening of the pro league's new season.

The 33-year-old Urbiztondo is a seven-year veteran who was not picked during the 2009 PBA Rookie Draft. He eventually made his way to the league as a free agent first with Sta. Lucia, Air21, Star, Barako Bull, Ginebra, and Phoenix, which acquired him last year in a trade with the Kings for Nico Salva and a future pick.

Cruz meanwhile, was a late third round pick by Star in last year’s draft. But after a two-conference stint with the Hotshots, the team traded the former Letran stalwart to Phoenix along with fellow rookie Norbert Torres in a deal involving RR Garcia.
