LA Revilla will undergo surgery to remove bone spurs on his left foot on Thursday, leaving Phoenix without a pure point guard in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
Revilla said the bones spurs have been bothering him for a long time now. The operation will sideline the former La Salle guard for the rest of the mid-season conference.
“Baka. Ilang games na lang din e, tapos playoffs na,” said Revilla at the end of Phoenix’s 97-87 win over NorthPort on Wednesday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
“Matagal na ito. Alam mo naman ang bone spurs medyo wear and tear na."
It was the second straight game Revilla missed since aggravating his condition in the team’s 78-76 win over Alaska two weeks ago.
Revilla is just one of two players nursing injuries for the Fuel Masters, the other being back-up big man Jaypee Mendoza. Sophomore Jason Perkins is not playing 100 percent due to an injured shoulder.
“Mga rotation man ko yung may mga injuries,” coach Louie Alas pointed out.
But the absence of Revilla is expected to affect the Fuel Masters more since the team is left with only combo guards RJ Jazul and Alex Mallari to run the plays.
“Multiple positions yung ginagawa ko, kaya lang bugbog yung mga guards ko kasi natitira kong guards hindi point guard, parehong combo si RJ and Mallari,” said Alas.
“We’re looking sa isang point guard kung makakakuha pa kami sa free agency. Hopefully, kasi hindi kami makaka-survive kung tatlo lang.”
Alas said the team is already looking at several prospects, one of which however, is currently playing in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL).
“Meron pero may team sa MPBL. Hindi natin alam kung ibibigay,” he added.
