PHOENIX gained firepower in the absence of JC Intal as it acquired Ronjay Buenafe from Meralco for Jonathan Uyloan.

Fuel Masters coach Ariel Vanguardia confirmed the development to Spin.ph in text message on Tuesday, the same day the league approved the straight trade.

“We needed an additional weapon with JC still injured,” Vanguardia said. “We also needed to unload some of our point guards because we had five.”

After seeing little action with the Bolts, the 33-year-old Buenafe could have a resurgence at Phoenix as he joins a young rotation featuring promising rookies Mark Cruz and Simon Enciso as well as veterans Chico Lanete and Josh Urbiztondo.

The Bolts will also benefit from the outside shooting and occasional playmaking of Uyloan.

“I think it’s a win-win for both teams since Meralco got a lot of wings,” Vanguardia said.
