PHOENIX got an added firepower heading to the PBA Philippine Cup playoffs after tapping shooting guard Karl Dehesa from the free agent list on Tuesday.
Dehesa was relegated by GlobalPort to the unrestricted free agent with rights to salary (UFAWR2S) list and the Fuel Masters lost no time in signing the Fil-Am gunner.
To make way for Dehesa’s inclusion in its roster, Phoenix relegated Jeff Javillonar to the injured/ reserve list. The team will merely assume the existing contract of Dehesa.
Coach Ariel Vanguardia welcomed the addition of Dehesa to his roster at a time the Fuel Masters are gearing up for the quarterfinals.
“He (Dehesa) gives us more flexibility and stability as he can alternate or play alongside Simon (Enciso),” said Vanguardia.
“In the long term, he can also fill in for Matthew Wright when he is on Gilas duty.”
Dehesa was acquired by GlobalPort last season in a trade with Mahindra for Paolo Taha.
