PHOENIX brings back old reliable Eugene Phelps in place of James White for the Fuel Masters’ PBA Commissioner's Cup game against Barangay Ginebra on Sunday.
White has been put by the Fuel Masters on the injury-reserved list, paving the way for Phelps suiting up for the team's 6:45 p.m. encounter with the Kings at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Phelps arrived in the country two weeks ago and has already been practicing with Phoenix for almost a week now.
He was gearing to play for the Fuel Masters for the Governors Cup until White went down with an injury.
Only a week ago, coach Louie Alas assured White that he remains as Phoenix’s import despite the early arrival of Phelps.
The Fuel Masters though lost to the NLEX Road Warriors in overtime, 120-115, in their last outing after coming off a rousing come-from-behind 89-87 win over the Magnolia Hotshots.
Phelps last played for Phoenix in the 2017 Governors Cup and immediately steered the team to a 2-0 start.
But the team lost its last three games with him, prompting management to tap Brandon Brown as his replacement. The bleeding though, didn’t stop for the Fuel Masters, who went 0-6 in all of their games with Brown as import and failed to make the playoffs.
