TWICE-to-beat Phoenix and Alaska look to advance early, while Meralco and San Miguel try to force rubber matches in the PBA Governors’ Cup quarterfinals on Wednesday at the Cuneta Astrodome.

The second-seed Fuel Masters face off with seventh-ranked Meralco at 4:30 p.m., while the No. 3 Aces battle sixth-seed San Miguel at 7 p.m.

Phoenix and Alaska look to join Barangay Ginebra and Magnolia in the semifinals.

Meralco, which finished the eliminations with a 5-6 slate, is the hottest team in the league heading into the playoffs, winning four straight games including a 111-81 victory over San Miguel.

Though finishing sixth, San Miguel has always been a contender in the league with four-time Most Valuable Player June Mar Fajardo leading the way as the Beemen try to force a rubber match for a semifinal spot.

San Miguel is also no stranger to advancing to the semifinals as a lower-seed.

In the last PBA Commissioner’s Cup, sixth-seed San Miguel beat TNT in the quarterfinals before defeating Alaska, the second-ranked squad, in the semifinals.
