BARANGAY Ginebra and Meralco face also-ran opponents on Thursday in a bid to improve on their placing in the quarterfinals of the PBA Philippine Cup.
The Gin Kings take on Phoenix Super LPG at 7:15 p.m., while the Bolts go up against Terrafirma at 5:15 p.m. at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
With the two teams already in the quarterfinals, Ginebra and Meralco will go for wins to enable them to reach the best seeding possible. The Gin Kings are currently tied for third place with Magnolia with a 7-3 win-loss record, while the Bolts are in fifth with a 6-4 slate.
Ginebra defeated NorthPort, 100-93, last Sunday to arrest a two-game losing streak in the return of the head coach Tim Cone following his stint as assistant coach of the Miami Heat NBA Summer League team.
Meralco also snapped a losing streak on Sunday, winning over league-leader San Miguel, 89-86.
Terrafirma hopes to finally stop the bleeding.
Both Phoenix and Terrafirma intend to capture a win in their final game of the eliminations.
The Fuel Masters look to improve on their 3-7 win-loss record after they beat Converge, 89-66, last Saturday. However, they will have to do so without Matthew Wright as he left the country for his wedding in the US.
Terrafirma is still winless after 10 games. The Dyip are now on a 15-game losing streak dating back to the 2021-2022 PBA Governors’ Cup, and they will look to end it with an upset over Meralco.
