Philip Paniamogan leaves Columbian Dyip on a contract buyout. Next stop, MPBL?

Philip Paniamogan's playing minutes declined drastically after Ricky Dandan took over as Columbian Dyip head coach from Chris Gavina starting this season.

COLUMBIAN Dyip decided to let go of explosive guard Philip Paniamogan on a contract buyout.

The 26-year-old former Jose Rizal University stalwart is in the third year of his deal with Columbian, but his playing minutes declined drastically after Ricky Dandan took over as head coach from Chris Gavina starting this season.

In the Philippine Cup, Paniamogan only played in four games and averaged 6.3 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in 19.3 minutes of action per game. He did shoot 38 percent from three-point range, however.

A native of Cagayan de Oro, the six-foot guard was put on the unrestricted free agent list by Columbia before the start of the Commissioner’s Cup when the franchise acquired another free agent in Jerramy King.

Paniamogan is reportedly set to take his act to the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) with expansion team Makati, where Joe Ramos, the former assistant team manager of the KIA franchise, acts as consultant.

Left out in the 2014 PBA draft, Paniamogan first played in the league for Globalport in 2015 before hooking up with KIA the following season.

He scored a career-high 25 points for the team, spiked by seven three-pointers in a 105-102 win over Meralco during the 2016-17 Philippine Cup.
