EUGENE Phelps posted big numbers as a quickfire Phoenix side totally outclassed NLEX, 123-97, on Wednesday in the PBA Governors’ Cup at the Cuneta Astrodome.

Phelps scored 51 points, grabbed 20 rebounds, and had three blocks in a game that was all but over after the Fuel Masters posted a 71-33 lead at halftime.

The in-form Fuel Masters led by as many as 41 points and coasted from there to improve to 6-2 (win-loss) while dealing the Road Warriors their fourth loss in eight games.

Phelps already had 28 points, 11 rebounds, and two blocks by the first half, and by the end of the game, came just two points short of equaling his PBA-high of 53 points which he set in last year’s Commissioner’s Cup.

Calvin Abueva added 17 points while Matthew Wright contributed 10 points as the Fuel Masters atoned for a two-point loss to Ginebra in a road game over the weekend.

“Big bounce-back game kasi ‘yung talo namin sa Ginebra one-possession game lang,” said Phoenix coach Louie Alas, who celebrated his 55th birthday on Wednesday.

“We're back and I like our situation."

Aaron Fuller had 38 points and 14 rebounds, Bong Galanza added 13 points, and Larry Fonacier only had 10 points for the Road Warriors.
