PETRON will finally have an import in Rodney White, but will still be playing without a reinforcement against Rain or Shine in its PBA Commissioner’s Cup Phoenix game on Tour on Saturday in Panabo City.
SMC management already came to terms with the import on Friday morning, although White won’t be arriving in the country until Sunday morning yet, a source told Spin.ph
“Hindi talaga aabot eh, kasi inuna na binigyan ng offer yung (Samardo) Samuels. Kaso nga hindi naman nag-kasundo, kaya di talaga aabot ang import para bukas (Saturday),” said the source.
White comes like a whiff of fresh air for the Boosters, who are still reeling from the blacklisting of prolific import Renaldo Balkman earlier in the week. The 6-foot-9 import did well in his last stint in the league as Barako Bull reinforcement, averaging 29.8 points, 13.2 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 1.2 steals in five games.
Before being slapped with a ban from playing in the league by commissioner Chito Salud, Balkman steered Petron to a hot 5-1 (win-loss) start, until the Boosters suffered their 73-83 loss at the hands of the Alaska Aces where the former New York Knick lost his temper in the waning seconds, leading to that infamous choking incident with teammate Arwind Santos in front of a horrified crowd at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
