San Miguel Beer to get Espinas and Yancy de Ocampo, gives up Maierhofer and Kramer in complex four-team trade

    Apr 6, 2015

THE trade involving Dave Marcelo and Billy Mamaril, it turned out, was just the tip of the iceberg.

A source told that while Ginebra and Barako completed the Marcelo-Mamaril swap, GlobalPort and San Miguel Beer were also hammering out deals to complete a complex four-team trade.

The Beermen traded big men Doug Kramer and Rico Maierhofer to GlobalPort for Yancy de Ocampo and Gabby Espinas. The Batang Pier then sent Maierhofer to Barako Bull for Mamaril, who the Energy had just acquired from Ginebra in a one-on-one swap.

The end result of the negotiations had Kramer and Mamaril joining Globalport, De Ocampo and Espinas now with San Miguel, Marcelo staying put at Ginebra and Maiehofer going back to Barako Bull.

The deal is awaiting the approval of PBA commissioner Chito Salud.

Espinas and De Ocampo are expected to toughen up SMB's frontline while GlobalPort will now have two reliable big men in Kramer and Mamaril, who both struggled to find playing minutes with their previous teams.

Marcelo will be reunited with former San Beda coach Frankie Lim at Ginebra while Barako gained a dependable big man in Maierhofer, who also saw limited minutes during his spell at San Miguel.

Espinas, who was recently traded by Alaska to GlobalPort for Noy Baclao, is expected add toughness to SMB's frontline while the veteran de Ocampo is set to back up reigning MVP June Mar Fajardo.
