THE PBA will soon discuss on whether to give out individual awards for top performers of the 2020 season in the bubble in Pampanga.
The 45th season of the PBA is being played under different circumstances with the league forced to set up a bubble to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The PBA is also forced to play only one conference under a compressed schedule of two months to determine a champion.
With all the focus of the league on staging the season inside the bubble, the PBA has not made plans of how they will do about with the Leo Awards or whether there will even be one.

But now that the bubble is now in place, PBA commissioner Willie Marcial said during Tuesday’s Philippine Sportswriters Association that the situation on the individual awards – such as the Most Valuable Player, Rookie of the Year, and Best Player of the Conference – will soon be on the table.
“Pag-uusapan ‘yan. Humihingi din ako ng opinion. Pag-uusapan din namin ng board. Siguro bago mag-middle of the eliminations, kapag umaandar na ng maganda [ang bubble], siguro pag-uusapan na namin next week,” said Marcial during the online forum supported by San Miguel Corporation, Go For Gold, Milo, Amelie Hotel Manila, Braska Restaurant, Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation, Upstream Media, and Smart.

If an MVP is to be named this year, the streak of six straight MVPs by June Mar Fajardo will definitely end. Prior to the bubble, observers see the MVP race as a wide open one with Fajardo sitting out the rest of the season due to a fracture in his right tibia.
Despite the seven-month break, Fajardo has not fully recovered from the injury and San Miguel decided not to include the big man in its bubble roster.
