THE PBA will conduct regular COVID-19 testing to its delegates inside the bubble once the league resumes the 2020 Philippine Cup in Clark, Pampanga.
Commissioner Willie Marcial said the PBA will follow the lead of the Department of Health as to the required volume of tests for the players, coaches, and staff in the bubble.
“Ang testing natin, kung ano ang protocol ng DOH. Kung ipapagawa ng DOH, every day, seven days, after seven days, every 14 days, ‘yun po ang susundin natin,” said Marcial.
The PBA has decided to choose Clark City as the site for its two-month bubble to determine the champion of the Philippine Cup that was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The PBA bubble, however, still needs to be approved by the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) but the league has now set a timetable of October 9 to resume play in the Philippine Cup.
Bases and Conversion Development Authority chief executive officer and concurrent testing czar Vince Dizon and Clark Development Corporation president Noel Manankil made presentations prior to the approval of Clark as the site for the PBA bubble.
“Nagpapasalamat kami kay Secretary Dizon at kay President Manankil. Halos six times a day ang tawagan namin. Malaking tulong sila sa project na ‘to,” said Marcial.

PBA chairman Ricky Vargas said one of the aspects why Clark was considered is its proximity to testing and quarantine facilities.
“One thing about Clark is they have a very strict protocol themselves when they can do actual testing and they do have hospitals and a laboratory there. With the assurance of Secretary Vince Dizon and the assurance of Chairman Manankil all these protocols will be done in Clark,” said Vargas.
The TNT governor assured the PBA will be following all protocols the government is required from them for the holding of the bubble in Clark.
“We will follow the protocols of Clark and all testings will be done in Clark. There is also a laboratory in Clark so it makes it even more convenient to do the testing based on whatever the protocol the IATF, DOH, plus the Clark City itself are currently doing. That’s how we look at it,” said Vargas.
