IN case you noticed, the flooring of the Mall of Asia Arena had a vastly different look during Wednesday night's PBA Governors Cup double-header.
The change wasn't intentional.
League officials had to borrow the maple flooring of the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City just to hold the games at the MOA Arena, whose own flooring was ordered refurbished by the NBA for the preseason game between the Houston Rockets and the Indiana Pacers on October 10.
“Nagpapasalamat kami kay Chairman Richie Garcia ng Philippine Sports Commission, kasi kungdi dahil sa kanila baka na-delay nang husto ang games,” said PBA media bureau chief Willie Marcial. “Sa kanila yung sahig na ginagamit ngayon eh.”
PBA operations head Rickie Santos said the league had no choice but to play at the MOA Arena despite the flooring problem for lack of an alternate venue.
“Pinaayos yung sahig eh. Kaunting sanding saka polishing,” said Santos. “Kaya baka mga four game days natin ang maapektuhan.”
“Kaya nga we are happy kasi ready agad ang PSC to help the league. Wala na kasi tayong venue na ibang lalaruan. No choice mag-transfer pa.”
PBA business development head Rhose Montreal said Garcia did not hesistate to lend the flooring.
“We were touched by the efforts of Chairman Garcia to immediately allow the removal and transfer of the flooring from Pasig to Pasay,” said Montreal.
“Chairman Garcia and (PSC executive director) Atty. (Guillermo) Iroy even told us how they are always willing to assist the PBA viewing public,” said Montreal, who revealed that the flooring will be installed and detached during PBA games.
“Also thank you sa MOA management kasi kahit biglaang nagkaroon ng refurbishing sa kanilang arena, they still opened their doors to the league,” she said.
