THE PBA is still in pursuit of its own arena that they hope to finally hit the ground running in 2025 or in the league’s 50th year.
The league revealed its plans for the year during a video package shown in the 50th anniversary celebration held at the Solaire North Resort, where one of its major undertakings is to, at last, jumpstart the construction of its own coliseum.
“We are still in pursuit for the homecourt of the PBA. And hopefully, we would be able to hold a groundbreaking ceremony soon. Ito ang magiging simula ng solid na tahanan ng ating pambansang liga, ang PBA, for years and years to come,” said San Miguel team governor Robert Non during the video package.
The PBA has been longing for an arena that will call it home for several years already that was first broached during the time of commissioner Noli Eala and again in 2010 by chairman Buddy Encarnado.
The construction of its own arena was once again revived during the league’s planning session for the 49th season.
There were already talks between the PBA and former Ilocos Sur governor Chavit Singson about the possibility of the arena being constructed at the site where the ‘Payanig sa Pasig’ and Metrowalk once stood last October
It is not yet clear if the talks between the PBA and the Singson camp have already progressed, six months since the preliminary discussion.
At the moment, the PBA is holding its games at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum, Ynares Center-Antipolo, Mall of Asia Arena, Ninoy Aquino Stadium, and Rizal Memorial Coliseum, and is competing with other professional sports leagues such as the Premier Volleyball League, and UAAP for schedules.
