A proposal is being considered to fine top achievers who fail to show up during the yearend PBA Leo Awards.

Five major awardees weren’t around during Friday’s proceedings at the Smart Araneta Coliseum prior to Game Four of the Governors Cup Finals between Barangay Ginebra and Meralco. Two of them were Mythical 1st team members Terrence Romeo and Calvin Abueva.

Others who didn’t show up were All-Defensive Team members Chris Ross, Marc Pingris, and Gabe Norwood.

League media bureau chief Willie Marcia said there’s nothing definite yet about the suggestion, which if approved, would likely be in effect by next year, SPIN.ph later learned.

“Proposal pa lang naman yun, hindi pa definite,” said Marcial. “Pag-aaralan pa lahat yan.”

Aside from no-shows, also being eyed to be fined are awardees who will not come in proper formal attire.

Big man June Mar Fajardo, who bagged a historic third straight MVP award, arrived for the event in a San Miguel Beer shirt. The 26-year-old Cebuano was also named the recipient of the Samboy Lim Sportsmanship Award for the second straight year.

Likewise showing up in a collar-less shirt was Rain or Shine’s Jericho Cruz, the Most Improved Player of the Year, while veteran NLEX center Asi Taulava (Mythical 2nd team) came in wearing a simple yellow polo shirt.

In fairness, non-awardees such as rookie Mo Tautuaa of TNT Katropa and San Miguel’s Marcio Lassiter came in their elegant all-black suite.

“Wala pa rin. Lahat yan puro proposal pa lang,” added Marcial.
