LA Tenorio has wasted no time finding his groove in the PBA Governors’ Cup.
The 5-foot-9 Ginebra guard won the PBA Press Corps Player of the Week honor after a standout performance in the Kings' 124-108 demolition of GlobalPort on Sunday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Tenorio fired 29 points and showed other facets of his game by contributing five rebounds and four assists on the way to becoming the second PBA Press Corps Player of the Week this conference. The two-time PBA Finals MVP also made five three-pointers as Ginebra booked its first win this conference.
The 33-year-old Tenorio bested the NLEx trio of Kevin Alas, Carlo Lastimosa and Alex Mallari, TNT veteran guard Jayson Castro and Troy Rosario, Star’s Paul Lee and Ian Sangalang, San Miguel’s June Mar Fajardo and Marcio Lassiter, Meralco’s Jared Dillinger and Reynel Hugnatan as well as Ginebra teammmate Greg Slaughter for the honor.
Tenorio admitted Ginebra’s complete front court led by a healthy Greg Slaughter, Japeth Aguilar and Joe Devance made things easier for him to score, knowing the trio can control the boards.
"Kumpyansa ako kasi may apat akong malaki sa ilalim. Malaking bagay 'yun. I think masyadong naka-focus sa ilalim kaya na-oopen up mga guards sa labas,” noted Tenorio.
Tenorio now turns his focus to Kia Picanto, which Ginebra next plays this coming Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. The Picanto are raring to bounce back after losing their first three games this conference.
“It’s gonna be a big test for us also kung paano namin masu-sustain yung game," said Tenorio.
