WITH the 2021 Philippine Cup playoffs now in the homestretch, the PBA believes it is still capable of staging a second conference for the season beginning mid-November, according to commissioner Willie Marcial.
Marcial said plans for an import-laced tournament are still on the table, but admitted that these will be dependent on approval from both national and local authorities.
“Tinitignan pa rin natin na mid-November kung magkakaayos lahat at walang problema tapos pinayagan tayo ng gobyerno,” said Marcial on Friday.
IATF clearance required
Before launching its season, the PBA secured a go-signal from the Inter-Agency Task Force through a resolution a few months ago to play games in areas under general community quarantine (GCQ).
The league also secured clearance from Pasig City to hold games at the Ynares Sports Arena, but was forced to stop its season and, eventually, move out of town after Metro Manila was elevated to a quarantine status higher than GCQ.
The games are now being held at the Don Honorio Ventura State University gym to Bacolor, Pampanga following an approval from governor Dennis Pineda.
The same process will be followed for the next conference, Marcial said.
The Philippine Cup is nearing the semifinal round, with TNT, Magnolia, and San Miguel already in, and NLEX and Meralco battling for the final spot in the next phase.
