PETRON'S buildup for the PBA Governors Cup has been left hanging with import prospect Othyus Jeffers unable to commit to the Boosters until after his stint in the NBA Summer League.
Agent Sheryl Reyes told Spin.ph on Thursday that Jeffers is still to decide on the Boosters' contract offer since he is still trying his luck with the Minnesota Timberwolves in the NBA Summer League.
“Hindi pa makapirma si Othyus kasi nasa summer league pa siya,” said Reyes. “Hindi pa kami maka-sign kasi nga he’s still there.”
“Ang schedule niya is after the summer league pa siya pwede mag respond sa offer,” she added.
Reyes has relayed Jeffers' situation to Petron management.
“Wala naman silang sinasabi. Bahala sila kung gusto nilang hintayin, kung mahintay nila, mahintay nila. Kung hindi kuha na lang sila ng iba,” said Reyes.
With most of the team's import prospects currently suiting up in the NBA Summer League, Reyes said Petron has adjusted its time table as far as its preparations for the Governors Cup is concerned.
“Mag-aadjust naman daw yung practice ng team, hindi na yata July 1 ang gusto nilang date of arrival nung import na makukuha nila,” she said.
“Ang maganda kasi is July 22 matatapos yung summer league- so by July 25 pa pwedeng pumunta dito si Othyus,” revealed the popular import agent.
The 6-3 Jeffers is a combo guard who scouts believe fills Petron's needs for a versatile player who can play multiple positions in a talent-laden lineup.
The 27-year-old Jeffers had stints with the Washington Wizards and San Antonio Spurs and averaged 19.7 points, 8.6 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game in three seasons with the Iowa Energy in the NBA D-League.
