DESPITE the devastation brought about by typhoon Yolanda in the Visayas region, two separate games in Cebu and Davao ushering the 39th season of the PBA will push through as scheduled.
Commissioner Chito Salud said there is no turning back as far as the staging the match between Meralco and Talk `N Text in Cebu, and Rain or Shine versus Alaska in Davao is concerned.
“We’re full speed ahead. It’s all systems go,” the amiable PBA official announced during the formal press conference for the league’s new season on Wednesday at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel.
The Visayas region was badly hit by super typhoon Yolanda exactly two weeks before the league kicks off with a unique set-up of holding a game each in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao right on opening day in line with the season’s new theme of `One PBA, One Philippines.'
But Salud made it clear both matches will be held in places that have been spared by the typhoon - the Cebu Coliseum in the Queen City of the South and University of Southern Philippines in Davao.
The showdown between Barangay Ginebra and San Mig Coffee corresponds the Luzon game as the sister teams battle each other at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum shortly after the traditional opening ceremonies.
