A PASSPORT hitch prevented Eastern stalwart Glen Yang from suiting up for the team’s PBA Commissioner’s Cup game against Rain or Shine on Wednesday.
The 28-year-old guard wasn’t with the Hong Kong based-team when it arrived in the country on Tuesday as there was a glitch on his travel documents which he failed to fix in time for Eastern’s departure to the Philippines.
Yang however, is expected to play in Eastern’s next game against debuting TNT Tropang Giga on Friday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
A product of Mount Royal, Yang is among the three holdovers from previous guest team Bay Area Dragons who were tapped by Eastern to reinforce the franchise in its campaign in Asia’s first ever play-for-pay league.
Aside from Yang, Hayden Blankley and Kobey Lam were the other Eastern players who previously suited up for the Dragons who fell one game short of winning a PBA title.
Yang was among the players instrumental in leading Eastern to a 2-0 start following victories over Converge and Phoenix.
Eastern later suffered its first PBA loss courtesy of Rain or Shine, 99-81.
Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao said the absence of Yang was a huge factor for the Hong Kong-based unit.
"Malaking bagay na wala yung primary guard nila sa si Glen Yang. Suwerte rin kami na hindi siya nakapag-laro," said Guiao. "Malaking bagay na yung mga guwardiya nila hindi pa eksperiyensado na kamukha ni Glen Yang."
