IMPORT Henry Walker isn’t thinking about Blackwater being for real after remaining unbeaten four games into the team’s PBA Governors Cup campaign.
There is one thing that’s very clear on his mind, though.
“I don’ think anything. I told you guys last conference that I was coming for that trophy,” said the Blackwater import.
Walker backed up his words as he exploded for 39 points on 6-of-10 shooting from three-point range in the Elite’s stunning upset of defending champion Barangay Ginebra Kings in overtime Friday, 124-118.
He also added seven rebounds and nine assists in helping the team take the solo lead for the best ever start in franchise history.
His numbers were also good enough to match up with Barangay Ginebra resident import Justine Brownlee, who finished with 41 points, six rebounds, and two assists.
“JB is a hell of a player, much respect to him. It’s always fun going up against him,” he said of his fellow prolific import.
Ginebra is the third traditional contender Blackwater has beaten so far after TnT Katropa and San Miguel Beer.
“It’s a talented team (Ginebra) over there. Even with guys out, they’re still dangerous,” he said of the Kings.
“It’s just a big win for our team.”
But Walker isn’t surprise no more with the way the Elite have been playing their early in the eliminations.
“My guys are confident,” he said. “Everyday we let them know that we’re only as good as our weakest man.
And if our weakest man comes ready to play and ready to step up and have a big role in the game, then we’ll be a pretty strong team and that‘s what you’re seeing. Just everybody is having the belief that we can go out here and win some ballgames.”
