MAHINDRA accomplished in overtime what it fell short doing in regulation as it stunned Star, 100-92, to jumpstart its PBA Governors’ Cup campaign on Friday night at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

LA Revilla scored just nine points, but five came in the extra session – the first three on a three-pointer that opened the period and put the Enforcers for good and the two from the charity stripe that kept the Hotshots at bay at ensured the victory.

Nino Canaleta and import James Whilte also came through in the clutch for the Enforcers, who gifted unheralded rookie coach Chris Gavina a victory in his debut.

“Great effort from my guys,” Gavina said. “I think our long preparation really nurtured our confidence going into this game.”

White registered 22 points, eight boards, and one block in 36 minutes, while Canaleta finished with 10 markers after going scoreless in the first half, where Aldrech Ramos carried the load with 10 of his 17 points.

The Hotshots had a chance to steal the game in the fourth quarter, but Marqus Blakely could only tie the game at 87 after missing the second of his free throw attempts with 37.4 ticks left, before Mark Barroca committed a turnover in the second-chance possession.

Blakely registered a team-high 21 points, although the Star import came up empty handed in overtime.
