IF the PBA games this year will resume at the Don Honorio Ventura State University (DHVSU) Gym in Bacolor, Pampanga, it will be a homecoming for TNT guard Jayson Castro.
Familiar territory for The Blur
Before he became one of Asia’s top guards, Castro had humble beginnings at the DHVSU where he studied high school. The school was then known as the Don Honorio Ventura College of Arts and Trade during his days.
Aside from being a member of the basketball varsity team, Castro was also a member of the track and field team of DHVSU.

After his time with DHVSU, Castro was then recruited by Philippine Christian University in the NCAA, which proved to be his ticket to basketball fame.
Since then, the Bacolor native became one of the top guards in the PBA and even in Asia after he received the Mythical Five during the 2013 and 2015 Fiba Asia Championship editions.
Castro will be returning to his alma mater once the PBA gets the green light to play in DHVSU for the resumption of the Philippine Cup.
The league was already given the formal go-signal from Pampanga governor Dennis Pineda to stage the resumption of the Philippine Cup in the province being an area under Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ).
At the moment, the PBA is only awaiting the approval of DHVSU top officials for the 2021 Philippine Cup to resume at the gym inside the school’s main campus.
Castro’s squad is currently in second in the Philippine Cup with a record of 3-0. Only Magnolia has a better record by virtue of its 4-0 card before the stoppage of play after the August 1 playdate due to the rising COVID-19 cases in the country.
