THE PBA is planning to hold a playdate on the exact day that the league will celebrate its 50th anniversary.
Commissioner Willie Marcial said the plan is to schedule a playdate at the historic Rizal Memorial Coliseum on April 9, with San Miguel going up against Meralco as a potential game. Once the plan pushes through, the Beermen and the Bolts will be wearing retro jerseys for the game.

Marcial said the league is still discussing with the Philippine Sports Commission, which controls the Rizal Memorial Coliseum, on the playdate.
“Baka maglaro tayo sa April 9 sa Rizal. Kinakausap pa namin ang Rizal, tinitignan pa rin natin, nasa planning stage tayo, San Miguel at Meralco, suot nila ang retro jersey nila. Tignan natin kung may first game,” said Marcial.
San Miguel is the only existing pioneer team in the PBA when it carried Royal Tru-Orange when the league formally opened on April 9, 1975.

While it entered the league in 2010, Meralco has a rich history in Philippine basketball, having competed in the old Manila Industrial Commercial Athletic Association (MICAA), the precursor of the PBA.
